On October 4, 2024, Lauri Jarvilehto’s new album, Songs About Sadness, came out. This is his eighth solo album. It’s about sadness and feeling down. It has indispensable pop sounds with profound lyrics, and it reminds listeners of artists like St. Vincent and Bleachers, with influences from legends like David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, and Bob Dylan. The alternate half of the album has songs like “My Little Butterfly”, “Fair Insight”, and “Whippoorwill”. These songs explore social issues and encourage introspection. The song “Moomin Weather” concludes the book, reminding listeners that life is full of ups and downs and that a variety of emotions are part of a complete life. A unique part of this album is that Jarvilehto played all the instruments himself. His son, Silja, joins as a guest songster, and his family, Paavo, adds a guitar variation on “Whippoorwill”, making the album more particular and reflecting family support.

Songs About Sadness is a captivating and poignant book that offers a positive perspective on sadness. Its rich sounds and unique stories make it an excellent listen for fans of essential pop and deep music. Each song has meaningful lyrics and emotional sound.
