Megan Thee Stallion: A Heavy Crown

On her third studio album, **Megan**, global rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion showcases a more introspective side, trading her usual high-energy bravado for a heavier, wearier tone. Known for her bold personality and unfiltered lyrics about sex, power, and dominance, Megan has built an internationally renowned brand. However, the price of this success is evident as she appears more defensive and less carefree than in previous works.

Megan Thee Stallion: A Heavy Crown

Tracks like the club-ready “BOA” and party anthem “Where Them Girls At” are catchy and infectious but are primarily aimed at her detractors, with lyrics focused on highlighting their inferiority. The venomous diss track “HISS,” stemming from a much-publicized feud with Nicki Minaj, delivers brutal one-liners and fierce flows without explicitly naming names. Despite the increased focus on addressing her rivals, Megan isn’t all vitriol.

The GloRilla-assisted “Accent” exudes Deep South swagger, while “Otaku Hot Girl” taps into anime soundtrack vibes. The unexpected pop sheen of “B.A.S.” featuring Kyle Richh, which samples Gwen Stefani, hints at stylistic growth and explores the emptiness of a hollow relationship. “Cobra” sees Megan venturing further outside her musical comfort zone, blending her familiar cadence with trap hi-hats, meandering synths, and chunky hard rock guitars. While Megan  strays somewhat from the invincible confidence and summer anthems typical of MTS, its moments of bitterness and uncertainty humanize the larger-than-life rap queen, revealing the toll of wearing the crown.
