‘In Another Life’: A Raw and Emotional Masterpiece

CHARLIECITYY’s ‘In Another Life’ is an intimate chronicle of songs that is highly autobiographical. The album is about love, heartbreak, and recovery – expectations managed, as it was released on the 14th of December in 2024. This time, however, CHARLIECITYY has decided to take a different route by using emotional and raw alternative indie software as opposed to his signature electronic upbeat music. “Flashback” sets the emotional tone with soft instrumentals combined with bittersweet lyrics that deal with love and loss.

The song sets the perfect stage for what is to follow in later tracks. “Mirror” can feel like having a self-talk. The music’s simple yet piercing lyrics, in conjunction with the stripped-back sound, allow one to greatly ponder upon their personal battles and progress. “Heartstrings” is softer with a delicate melody which makes it stand out. Its lyrics touch on the topic of the unexpected yet deep impact love leaves. It is relatable and dramatic. “Denial” is an intense yet exciting track because the beats are heightened and the energy is darker with the confusion that stems from non-acceptance. It is one of the more powerful and rigid tracks. “I Never Seem to Learn” provides a feeling of guilt. The song feels like a late-night confession with the soothing melody blending perfectly with the honest words. Seeing the positive side of every piece of the album makes it one of immense beauty. “Requiem” evokes quite layered, and stirring. It’s a likening to the emotion of saying farewell to a significant person.

As CHARLIECITYY has a very personal touch in his songs, “Skin” allows his voice to truly shine. The song is very simple yet so raw and emotional. “In Another Life” is one of the more different yet distinct songs that have an elegant touch. It has an undertone of sadness capturing hope with the longing of imagining a different outcome, focusing on the efforts to let go. The album finally reaches its conclusion in the song “Goodbye”, with acceptance encompassing comfort, marking it as a powerful conclusion to the saga. The quote extract from Robin Williams did manage to stand out without any additional comfort. ‘In Another Life’ is for sure a standout song and captures the feeling of the album’s highlights alongside the down points. It’s emotional, honest, and easy to relate for all those who have crossed paths with CHARLIECITYY making this album one of the braver changes he has ever made.
