CITIZEN:KANE has returned with his fourth studio album, ‘Blow’, which is a unique combination of sounds that is influenced by his love for electronic music from when he was young. The late 90s and the early 2000s inspired sound of the likes of Cujo, Red Snapper and Zero DB features on the album which experiments with the creative boundaries of jazz.
“The Club” is the first track and serves as an introduction to what is about to follow in the album. Ranging in textures, layered beats blend in with CITIZEN:KANE’s side of music and channel the creativeness that was set out to be. Funky synths immerse with vibrant chasing tracks in “Jam” which keeps the geist moving and flows alongside the rest of the album. “Fluid” excels with its name, hiking the beat structures even higher, implying a sense of motion with the music. “Peiote” is CITIZEN: KANE’s imagined spinning techno roots, which are bolstered by the rhythmic breaks in the music. “The Fence”, however, offers something new to the table, the emotions. Alongside a contemplative side, it presents layered melodies with a feeling of being in the middle of a conversation that was never meant to happen with the sound set piece.

“Montreal” stands out as perhaps one of the more heated hotbeds for jazz, with a thick fusion of synthetic and experimental orchestrations. A minimalistic yet deeply profound endeavour, “Frankie Nata” starkly contrasts and prepares the listener for the final track, “Family”. This perfectly located final track wraps everything up with a mixture of encouraging and contemplative vibes resulting in a soothing and pleasant sense of resolution. CITIZEN:KANE has yet again created a deeply moving record with ‘Blow’ – an artist who’s fearless with his creativity. It’s the sort of music that one ought to listen to unreservedly for the reason that it’s diverse in its expression and never holds back from creating new ideas.
