‘Hold On’: A Powerful Debut That Bridges House and Techno

ClRYME’s first EP titled ‘Hold On’ is an astonishing start for the SEVEN label. This release truly represents the purpose of the label, which is to fuse house music with techno music, all while maintaining an energetic ambience on the dance floor. There is one original track and four remixes, which means that everyone is guaranteed to be satisfied whilst having all the versions brought to the song. The original track “Hold On” is a deep, pulsating song which is enhanced by captivating vocals and tedious bass beneath. CRYME constructs an extreme beat that draws you into a magnetic groove. It is a song that works equally well in a crowded club as in your ears when you are in a car driving at night. “Cinthie’s remix” extends the energetic feel of the house towards the soulful side. Her trademark is energetic bass with gentle strings making “Hold On” much lighter and uplifting. The playful fragments also serve to make the track ideal for the admirers of traditional feeling house music.

‘Hold On’: A Powerful Debut That Bridges House and Techno

The remix by “Obscure Shape” heads straight into the realms of techno. With every step of the way, the drama shifts as the new world unfolds, the drum patterns grow tougher, the voice changes into a ghostlike shadow, and the vocals are tossed around like a derelict captured by waves. This version provokes an unearthed intensity that is robust and completely intense. Like a skin shed off the underground. “Lydia Eisenblatter” brings along some crystal breaks with stridulous bursts of Underground rave horns. While reminiscent of a tribute to the 90’s, it’s also fresh and heavily contemporary. The thumping basslines, islands of silence, and spine-tingling drops serve well to those fond of breaks and experimental electronic vibes.

Closing out the EP, “Volpe Remix” serves a dub-inflected deep techno workout. Spiral twirled echo with a blend of creeping and slinking percussion delivers a transdental meditative state so ethereal, that it’s nauseating. This is one of those form shifters. The kind that drags you in so slowly, and at your own pace, where destroying the health puzzle becomes a beat electrified by a soothing hypnotic fog. In sum, ‘Hold On’ is an outstanding debut, showcasing the variance of CRYME under the umbrella vision of SEVEN. For the lover of house, techno, or anything in between grab on to this mix and it will latch on.
